The president of the United States, Donald Trump, suggested on Saturday that he could “bring together” Chavismo and the opposition to bring closer positions for a democratic transition in Venezuela.
«We have to do something with this. Maybe bring the parties together and do something,” Trump responded to the press aboard Air Force One when asked if opposition leader María Corina Machado should be able to return to Venezuela.
Trump added that Machado “is a very good person and, at the same time, the current leadership is doing a very good job,” in reference to Delcy Rodríguez, in charge of the Venezuelan Executive after the capture of Nicolás Maduro on January 3.

Regarding the oil sector, Trump assured that he has closed an agreement with India to purchase Venezuelan crude oil instead of Iranian oil, while saying that China will be “welcome” if it wants to do business.
The Trump administration has not publicly detailed timelines for the democratic transition in Venezuela following the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, during a US attack in Venezuela.

The Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, stated last Wednesday before the Senate that the ultimate objective of the Trump Administration is to achieve a “democratic Venezuela” through “free and fair” elections, but warned that the transition is not a matter of weeks, but will last some time.
The American ambassador Laura Dogu arrived in Caracas on Saturday, January 31, to reopen the United States diplomatic mission in Venezuela, closed for seven years after the breaking of diplomatic relations between both countries.
His arrival occurs a day after Delcy Rodríguez announced a general amnesty for all political prisoners and the closure of the Helicoide, described as a torture center.
