Danilo Medina announces restructuring of the PLD and route to define presidential candidate

Danilo Medina anuncia reestructuración del PLD y ruta para definir aspirante presidencial

Santo Domingo.– The former president of the Republic and president of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Danilo Medina, reported that this political organization is immersed in a restructuring process at the national level, with the aim of reorganizing its structure into polling stations and precincts.

Medina explained that each member of the party will be linked to the table where they vote, joining base committees and intermediate structures in each precinct, as part of a strategy to strengthen the territorial political work of the organization.

The former president indicated that, after touring different provinces of the country, they have perceived expectations regarding the definition of presidential leadership within the PLD. In this context, he pointed out that progress will be made in reducing the number of candidates by defining the profile that the party’s next presidential candidate must meet.

Likewise, he announced that the Political Committee will meet on February 12 to build the agenda that will be presented to the Central Committee, the body that will officially decide on the 22nd who may aspire on behalf of the organization.

Medina added that, once this process has been exhausted, the date for an internal consultation will be established to choose the candidate who will later be presented as a presidential candidate, in accordance with the deadlines established by the electoral law, scheduled for the end of October 2027.

Regarding possible political alliances, He maintained that the PLD does not close the doors to agreements, although he made it clear that the organization will not support external candidates. “Anyone who wants an alliance with us, welcome, but let no one expect that the PLD will support them,” he expressed.
