The president of Mexico affirmed that the shipment of oil to Cuba will be resolved through diplomatic channels, meanwhile, other fundamental products will be sent to the island.
After the controversy caused by President Donald Trump, who stated that the Mexican president had agreed to no longer send fuel to the island headed by Miguel Díaz-Canel, she made it clear that this issue was not discussed during the last telephone conversation they had.
However, he reaffirmed Mexico’s commitment to supporting the Cuban people.
In this vein, he assured that the shipment of oil to Cuba for humanitarian reasons will continue to be sought – through diplomatic channels – without seeking confrontations.
President Sheinbaum – on tour in Sonora – reiterated that her government is preparing to send humanitarian aid to Cuba, mainly food and other basic supplies.
He affirmed – through a statement – that Mexico’s relationship with all the countries of the world is one of respect and solidarity.
Regarding the call with President Donald Trump, he stated that it was respectful, and progress is being made in various agreements on the main issues of the relationship, including trade and security.
Previously, Sheinbaum Pardo explained that the shipment of oil to Cuba was not an issue with Trump, but it was addressed by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, and the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, last Friday, January 30.
