Khamenei warns the US that any attack against Iran will spark a regional war

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned this Sunday that Any US aggression against your country would lead to a regional war and assured that Washington’s threats do not intimidate the Iranian people, according to statements broadcast by Iranian state media.

“The Americans must know that, if they start a war, this time it will be a regional war,” Khamenei said during a massive event for the anniversary of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s return to Iran, in the run-up to the victory of the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

The religious and political leader stressed that Iran does not seek to start a conflictbut warned that it will respond firmly to any attack, the agency said EFE.

The Iranian statement comes after the recent US military deployment in the Persian Gulf and the president’s warnings donald trump about possible armed action if a nuclear agreement is not reached with Tehran.

“With threats like sending aircraft carriers you cannot scare the Iranian people,” Khamenei said, alluding directly to Trump.

In recent days, Trump confirmed the presence of a US fleet led by the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln in the Middle East.

Protests and accusations of coup d’état

In his speech, Khamenei also referred to the anti-government protests recorded between the end of December and mid-January, which he described as an attempted coup d’état. accusing the US and Israel of being behind the riots.

“Strategic centers of the country were attacked: security forces, banks, mosques and even the Koran. This resembled a coup d’état,” he said.

The Iranian authorities have recognized more than 3,100 dead during the repression of protestswhile the opposition NGO HRANA, based in the US, raises the figure to more than 6,700 deaths and claims to investigate thousands of additional complaints.

US-Iran: military tensions and diplomatic channels

In the midst of this scenario, Trump has reiterated that his Administration maintains contacts with Tehran to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program, although he has insisted that “all options are on the table” if the negotiations fail.

“Iran is negotiating with us and we will see if we can achieve something; if not, we will see what happens,” declared the US president in the last hours.

For his part, the Iranian president, Masud Pezeshkian, assured in a telephone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah al Sisi, that A war is not in the interest of either Iran or the United States.

Likewise, he reiterated Tehran’s willingness to a “fair and meaningful” diplomatic process, although he ruled out negotiating on its missile program and military capabilities.

In parallel, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard affirmed that the country’s Armed Forces are fully prepared to respond to any aggression.

“We have action plans for any hostile scenario”declared the spokesman of the body, General Ali Mohammad Naeini, according to the Mehr agency cited by EFE.
