The electoral reform that President Claudia Sheinbaum will send to Congress will be “with all” the parties of the alliance, stated the head of the Ministry of the Interior (SG), Rosa Icela Rodríguez, who asked the Morena deputies for “absolute loyalty to the project.”
At the meeting of the majority bench, prior to the start of the session this Sunday, he maintained that “we do not have the right to fail” and suggested following the example of “dedication and tireless work” of the President “because it is in our hands to consolidate the legacy of this movement.”
During her participation in the meeting, in San Lázaro, the official referred to the eventual initiative on electoral matters and assured that “far from any imposition, this reform is built with the participation” of various sectors, whose opinions were gathered through 63 public hearings, both in Mexico and the United States.
Rodríguez Velázquez stated: “Congress will have its sovereign moment to debate and vote with all the forces represented, but with these meetings we advance in ensuring that the initiative that reaches its seats does not come from a desk, but rather is nourished and legitimized by the voice of the people.”
He pointed out that the popular support for Sheinbaum “sends us a strong message: the trust of the people is sacred, our loyalty to the project must be absolute.”
Later, when she was leaving the Chamber, she was questioned about the fate of the electoral reform and whether or not it will be supported by Morena’s allied parties.
– Will there be electoral reform, even without PT or Verde? –he was asked.
“Yes, there will be, with everyone,” he said.
Likewise, he ruled out that his allusion to the importance of showing loyalty to Sheinbaum has “dedication” to PT and Green parties, since the phrase simply “is a thank you.”
Regarding relations with the United States, the official highlighted that the President “has always defended the interests of our fellow citizens with the law in hand,” and reiterated “the rejection of xenophobia, racism, exclusion and violence.”
Later, when participating in the plenary session of PT senators and deputies, he recognized “the great contribution of the PT groups to the construction of the Fourth Transformation,” and asked them to continue supporting the necessary structural reforms, including electoral reforms.
“We do not seek to weaken plurality, but rather move towards a participatory democracy,” he clarified.
He stressed that the PT “is not only an ally, but an indispensable political force for the governability of this country. You have shown that you are the bench that works by and for the people and have always put the working class and social causes first.”
In San Lázaro, the national president of Morena, Luisa María Alcalde, pointed out that the party’s national council will soon meet to define the rules for electing candidates in 2027, where she offered an “even floor” and called for unity.
“If we don’t take care of Morena, if we fight and divide, we are looking at our navels, in whose hands do we leave this country? If we neglect ourselves, the PRI, the PAN, the Citizen Movement?” he asked his companions.
