The city of Rio de Janeiro reached the second level of the Heat Protocol (HEAT 2) at 10:20 am this Sunday (1st). Heat 2 is the second of five heat levels, and is characterized by the prediction or recording of Heat Indices (CI) – temperature and humidity – above 36°C for one or two consecutive days and for four hours or more.
According to the Rio Alert System, atmospheric conditions in the city of Rio will be influenced by heat and humidity at various levels of the atmosphere.
Thus, the forecast is for a maximum temperature of 36°C, and a median heat index between 36°C and 40°C for 10 hours.
In the afternoon, the sky will be cloudy to partly cloudy, with showers.
On Monday and Tuesday (2 and 3), the weather will remain unstable, with varying cloud cover and forecast of rain showers in the afternoon and evening. Winds will be light to moderate.
Recommendations for the heat:
– Increase your intake of water or natural fruit juices, without added sugar, even if you are not thirsty;
– Eat light foods, such as fruits and salads;
– Wear light and cool clothes;
– Avoid alcoholic drinks with a high sugar content. Can cause dehydration;
– Avoid direct exposure to the sun, especially from 10am to 4pm;
– Find out about heat levels in the city of Rio de Janeiro through social networks and websites of the Operations Center and the Municipal Health Department;
– Don’t stop taking routine medications. Heat can be more harmful to those with hypertension, diabetes or heart failure;
– Pet care: avoid walks between 10am and 4pm and check the soil temperature. Don’t forget to provide fresh water for your pet. Hydration is essential;
– Offer water frequently to children and the elderly, even if they do not feel thirsty.
