The Chinese Embassy in Peru has announced, in a statement on its social networks, that the Peruvian-Chinese Fraternity Day will be held this February 1 on the esplanade of the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture, contradicting what was stated a few weeks ago by the president. José Jerí.
The diplomatic headquarters indicated that this will be the second celebration of the anniversary after the law was promulgated in June 2024 that recognized February 1 of each year as the Peruvian-Chinese Fraternity Day, “in recognition of the valuable contribution of Chinese immigration to Peru, as well as its contribution to the cultural, socioeconomic and scientific development in the formation of our nation.”
“In 2024, the Congress of Peru approved the law that declares February 1 as the Peruvian-Chinese Fraternity Day. This year, together with the Mincul, we celebrated this important day for the second time. We organized a Traditional Chinese New Year Fair on the Esplanade of the Ministry of Culture, at 10:00 am, on Sunday, February 1, to share and reaffirm the friendship between both peoples,” the embassy indicated on its official networks.

This contradicts what was reported by President Jerí, who had indicated that this fraternity event would take place in the Government Palace, after a video was revealed in which the president is allegedly seen entering a chifa to hold an unofficial meeting with the Chinese businessman Zhihua Yang.
The president said that this meeting had been to coordinate the activities for the Day of Fraternity between both countries.
“When you go to a restaurant you are going to share and talk and within the main theme which is the theme of February 1st and which, finally I hope that it continues to be carried out and that it will finally be in the Government Palace,” declared José Jerí on January 14.
