Regime orchestrates several acts of repudiation against Mike Hammer in Camagüey and Trinidad

Mike Hammer / Acto de repudio

“I know that they do not represent the Cuban people, ordinary Cubans,” Hammer commented in a publication after the altercations.

LIMA, Peru – The Cuban regime orchestrated an act of repudiation against the United States Chargé d’Affaires in Cuba, Mike Hammer, after the diplomat’s arrival this Saturday in Camagüey.

in a video spread on social networks It is shown how a small group mobilized by the Cuban dictatorship was waiting for Hammer outside his lodging to begin the event. The incident follows the line of attacks that the tyranny has maintained against the American in recent months, due to his work in defense of human rights and democracy on the Island.

The henchmen of the regime did not enter the lodging, but from the streets they shouted hackneyed slogans from the Castro manual such as: “Down with the blockade!”, “Get out of Cuba!”, “Worm!”, “Genocide!”, among others.

Furthermore, during the event, people allegedly from the regime were seen intentionally recording the events from various angles, an action that could later be used as part of the official propaganda apparatus against Hammer.

This same weekend, the diplomat suffered a similar incident in Trinidad. In this regard, after the altercation, the United States Embassy in Cuba shared several videos on social networks where Hammer assured that he would continue touring the Island.

“I have gotten to know more ordinary Cubans. We have been talking about their aspirations and desires for a better Cuba. There have been some who have shouted insults. I think they belong to a certain Party, but I know that they do not represent the Cuban people, ordinary Cubans,” said the charge d’affaires.

“I had the pleasure of meeting Father Conrado again in Trinidad. He inspires me every time I speak with him. And when I left the parish a few communists, surely frustrated by how bad the Revolution is going, shouted obscenities at me, but aren’t they the ones who always insist on respect?” Hammer questioned in another publication.

In June 2025, the American experienced another of the infamous acts of repudiation of the Havana dictatorship while traveling inside the Lanchita de Regla through the bay of the Cuban capital.

Hammer: an ally of Cuban freedom

Since his arrival in Havana in 2023, Mike Hammer has maintained a clear public position in favor of fundamental freedoms in Cuba. During his administration, he has denounced arbitrary arrests, repression against activists and independent journalists, and has advocated for respect for the rights of expression, assembly and movement, in a political context marked by the social and economic crisis.

Last Wednesday, Mike Hammer held an event at his residence in Havana to mark the beginning of the commemorations for the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence, a campaign called “Freedom 250” launched by President Donald Trump. On the Island, the beginning of the campaign coincided with the celebration of the birth of José Martí, the Cuban Apostle.

“We regret that several of our guests were not able to come to this event; State Security has prevented them from doing so, but we will continue to support them, we will continue to support the Cuban people. Cuba will soon be free,” said the American diplomat during the meeting.

The event was attended by diplomatic representations, some relatives of political prisoners, accredited and independent foreign press, as well as Catholic and Christian leaders. Dozens of human rights activists were unable to attend because Cuban State Security prevented them from doing so through house arrests.

The diplomatic headquarters transmitted a message from Undersecretary of State, Cris Landau, who assured that the United States is “committed to supporting the ordinary Cuban people” and will continue “to insist that all political prisoners be released and that human rights be respected.”

“We hope that in 2026 Cubans will finally be able to exercise their fundamental freedoms. As President Trump has said, the Castro-communist regime is faltering, it will not last much longer. After 67 years of a failed revolution that has betrayed the Cuban people, it is time for the change that people on the Island aspire to,” he stated.

During the event, the documentary was premiered The night will not be eternalwhich tells several life stories of people involved in the protests of July 11, 2021 (11J). Two of its protagonists were able to attend the meeting: Father Alberto Reyes and the journalist from CubaNet Camila Acosta, who managed to evade the police cordon around her home and reach Hammer’s residence.
