Santo Domingo.– The Center of Operations of Emergencies (COE) increased this Sunday to seven the provinces and to National Districtl in green alertdue to significant cloudy weather that will be generating heavy rains in some points, observed from the early hours of the morning towards towns to the east, southeast and northeast.
The locations under alert are: La Altagracia, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, San Cristóbal, Santo Domingo and the National District.
During the afternoon, these precipitations could be accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and possible gusts of wind, product of the combination of a trough associated with a frontal system with the warm and humid wind from the south/southeast.
The emergency agency indicated that moderate rains have been generated since early hours, which would be causing increases in cloudiness, moderate to heavy downpours at times, possible electrical storms and gusts of wind.
In this sense, the population is recommended to refrain from crossing rivers, streams and ravines that have high volumes of water, and not to use spas in the indicated areas.
The meteorological entity released this information through the bulletin issued by the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET).
COE increases seven provinces and the National District on green alert, because the INDOMET report establishes that significant cloudiness, generating heavy rains in some points, is observed from the early hours of the morning towards towns in the east, southeast and northeast.
However, during the afternoon, these precipitations could be accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and possible gusts of wind, product of the combination of a trough associated with a frontal system with the warm and humid wind from the south/southeast.
Increase in abnormal waves
The COE reported that, on the Atlantic coast, the waves will increase significantly. For this reason, operators of fragile, small and medium-sized vessels, from Manzanillo Bay to Cabo Francés Viejo, are urged to remain in port, and on the rest of the coast, navigate with caution near the coastal perimeter.
