Without mentioning the meetings he has led with the leaders of the benches allied to Morena, the Labor Party (PT) and the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM), who have been dissatisfied with the possible reduction in financing for parties and proportional representation deputies, Rodríguez explained the process followed to integrate the initiative.
He indicated that, with the reception of proposals headed by the Presidential Commission for Electoral Reform and through a microsite enabled to receive documents, the aim is to open public discussion.
“We are making progress in ensuring that the initiative reaches their seats; that it does not come from a desk, but that it is nourished and legitimized by the voice of the people,” he stated.
He asked the legislators to attend to the “historic support” that, he said, reflects the polls in favor of President Claudia Sheinbaum, with 77% support, and correspond with the approval of the pending reforms.
This support for the president, he said, is the result of “governing with science, with conscience, with the law in hand, but above all with the heart and love for the people. This support sends us a strong message: the trust of the people is sacred and our loyalty to the project must be absolute.
“We have no right to fail. Let us follow their example of dedication and tireless work because it is in our hands to consolidate the legacy of this movement,” he told the legislators.
The meeting with the full Morena bench was private, but access was given to the official’s initial message, and in it, Rodríguez did not inform for now the date on which the president will submit her electoral reform initiative to Congress.
