The Labor Court begins on the 4th of Itinerant Justice actions focusing on access for people who are unable to reach a labor court. The municipality chosen as the first stopping point is Araguatins, in Tocantins. The objective is to serve workers and communities in remote territories, such as riverside, indigenous, quilombola and urban periphery populations, especially in digital exclusion.
The initiative, called Citizenship here with youpromotes a joint effort to provide assistance, providing guidance and receiving complaints about labor issues; conflict resolution in the work area; issuance of documents such as work card, identity card, voter registration card and various legal guidelines.
The project, which runs until the 8th, has partnerships in the federal, state and municipal areas, including assistance with doctors and dentists, social security and a collective wedding ceremony. The services are free. The program is expected to benefit between 700 and 1,000 people daily.
“The idea of community marriage is so that families can have a regularized situation with the State and this generates protection for their children. The action is also aimed at protecting children and adolescence with care for 7 to 10 thousand people during the period”, he told Brazil Agency the program coordinator and assistant judge of the Presidency of the Superior Council of Labor Justice (CSJT), Otávio Ferreira.
National policy
The actions are part of the National Policy for Itinerant Justice and Digital Inclusion of the Labor Court (PNJIID), approved by the CSJT in December last year and which determines that itinerantity becomes mandatory in the Labor Court throughout the national territory.
During the itineraries, judges and employees of the Labor Court are inserted in the community and available to citizens to, in addition to offering legal assistance, provide information, answer questions, give lectures and gather suggestions.
Araguatins, which is located in the Bico do Papagaio region, on the border of Tocantins, Pará and Maranhão, was chosen based on a process that identified a series of socioeconomic vulnerabilities in the municipality, the most populous in the region.
“We mapped the situation and identified that Araguatins has more than 70% of its workforce in an informal market, a high risk of exploitation of child labor, a high possibility of attracting people into contemporary slave labor. There is a lack of citizenship due to the absence of certain bodies that can provide services directly to the local population”, said the coordinator.
According to Ferreira, the scenario in the area is one of traditional, quilombola, riverside, extractivist populations that deserves attention from the State.
First action
In this first action, together with the Labor Court, the Brazilian Army, State Court, Federal Court, Public Defender’s Office, State and Federal Public Ministry, Federal Attorney General’s Office, Notary Offices, INSS, Caixa Econômica Federal, Regional Labor and Employment Superintendency participate.
In addition, representatives from the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture and INCRA will also be part of the citizenship effort.
For consultations, interested parties must bring any identification documents that are available, as well as other documents that can assist with legal, social and health care. The program also includes lectures and listening moments with students and teachers from local schools and the general public.
The collective marriage ceremony will take place on February 8th, in the morning, and is aimed at couples with an income of up to three minimum wages who have not yet formalized their civil union.
The labor judge also highlighted that the process to achieve “true broad and substantial access to justice” also involves informing people about their rights and, therefore, the importance of Justice going to the territories.
“This generates confidence in the population served that the State is present, that the State can be activated. The distance between the State and the population creates a situation of insecurity, insensitivity and lack of trust in the institution.”
According to the calendar, the next action of the program will be in April, in Oiapoque, Amapá. In May, it will be the turn of the Ilha de Marajó region (Melgaço and Portel), in Pará, in May. In June the itinerary will arrive in Pacaraima, in Roraima.
