President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva underwent, this Saturday (31), a routine evaluation on the first day after cataract surgery on his left eye. According to a note released by Palácio do Planalto, the ophthalmological examination showed satisfactory progress, as expected for the period.
The evaluation was carried out at the Mirar Oftalmologia clinic, in Brasília, and the president was released to return to his usual activities on Monday (2), when he will participate in the solemn opening session of the 2026 Judiciary year.
Cataracts are a natural aging process that results in the loss of transparency of the crystalline lens, which is the natural lens of the eyes, leaving it opaque and whitish. In surgerythe crystalline lens is replaced by an artificial lens.
The president underwent the procedure on Friday (30) and received hospital discharge on the same day. Lula had already had the same procedure done on his right eye in 2020.
At the weekend, Lula will remain at Granja do Torto, one of the residences of the Presidency of the Republic, with the monitoring of teams led by doctors Roberto Kalil Filho and Ana Helena Germoglio.
