First Justice poses six key conditions to advance towards the democratic transition

The Primero Justicia party presented this Thursday an analysis of the political situation in the country after the events occurred on January 3 and defined his position regarding the process that, in his opinion, should lead to a democratic transition and the re-institutionalization of the Venezuelan State.

The organization maintained that the current scenario represents the beginning of a stage of liberation, although it warned that authoritarianism is still present. In this context, national leaders of the party indicated that the so-called stabilization phase must be aimed at creating real democratic conditions and not at a simple reordering of power.

Members of the National Board of Directors participated during the meeting, including María Beatriz Martínez, president of Primero Justicia; Paola Bautista de Alemán, vice president of Training and Programs; Juan Miguel Matheus, coordinator of the JDN; and Edinson Ferrer, vice president of Organization.

Bautista de Alemán explained that the sheet of route proposed by the administration of the American president Donald Trump contemplates three phases: stabilization, recovery and transition. However, he insisted that the first stage must lay the foundations for a democratic system and not perpetuate authoritarian practices.

“The transition must have as its final objective the return to the Constitution and popular sovereignty. We will not accept a change of clothes of the autocratic system to gain time; the challenge is to move from the logic of force to the logic of law,” he stated, adding that Primero Justicia promotes a “democratic transition.”

Six essential requirements to advance

The party reiterated that to advance in this process six fundamental conditions must be met: full and unconditional liberation of all political, civil and military prisoners, as well as the closure of torture centers; the dismantling of irregular armed and paramilitary groups; the cessation of censorship and persecution against journalists and press workers, in addition to the total unblocking of the internet and digital media; the re-institutionalization of public powers; the holding of free and transparent elections for governors, mayors and the National Assembly; and the creation of guarantees for the safe return of exiles.

For her part, the president of the party, María Beatriz Martínez, stated that the organization will maintain a clear position against power.

“Primero Justicia remains a force in opposition to the current regime. We will not be part of any ‘sainete’ or narratives that seek to maintain the regime under a new appearance,” he said. In that sense, he warned that the ruling party tries to “change its clothes and be submissive to tutelage” to remain in power.

Territorial commitment and civil rights

Edinson Ferrer pointed out that the party will concentrate its efforts on territorial work and the defense of civil rights, as well as supporting families affected by political persecution. “The party must be a protagonist and responsible, taking advantage of its prepared human resources and its territorial presence,” he indicated.

At the closing of the activity, Juan Miguel Matheus recalled that the Venezuelan political process does not respond to single formulas and that the country has a historical record of agreements built through peaceful means.

“We are not orphans of history. Each process is unique, but the goal must always be the same: a consensus that overcomes the hegemonic temptation and returns power to the citizen,” he expressed.

Finally, Primero Justicia invited you to participate in the third virtual session of the Raíces seminar, scheduled for this Tuesday, February 3 at 5:00 pm (Venezuela time), titled “Primero Justicia in the phases of political change”, which will be led by the national vice president of Strategy and Communications, Julio Borges, and will be broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Vice Presidency of Training and Programs.
