The Rio de Janeiro Jury Court sentenced Vagner Dias de Oliveira to 25 years in prison for the crime of feminicide, for a base reason and without defense for the victim. In October 2023, he set fire to and killed his ex-wife, Raphaela Salsa Ferreira Dias de Oliveira, on the banks of the Rio-Santos Highway.
When filing a complaint, the 2nd Specialized Criminal Investigation Prosecutor’s Office of the Rio de Janeiro Center highlighted that, unhappy with the separation, the accused waited for the victim at the door of a course, in the west zone of Rio, chased the application car requested by her and managed to get Raphaela to board the vehicle driven by him.
Then, armed with a bottle of gasoline, he set fire to the victim’s body in a wooded area on the side of the road.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office highlighted in the indictment that, in addition to feminicide, characterized by the situation of domestic and family violence due to the victim’s female sex, the crime was committed for a base and cruel reason.
