On a day marked by volatility, the dollar fell and closed below R$5.20 for the first time in almost two years. Affected by the worsening of the foreign market, the stock market interrupted the sequence of records.
The commercial dollar ended Thursday (29) sold at R$ 5.194, with a decrease of R$ 0.012 (-0.22%). The price fell to R$5.16 shortly before noon, rose to R$5.24 around 12:30 pm and fell again in the afternoon, consolidating below R$5.20 from 3:30 pm.
The US currency is at its lowest value since May 28, 2024. The currency accumulated a drop of 1.75% in the week and 5.38% in January.
The stock market had a day of adjustments. After two consecutive records, the Ibovespa index, from B3, ended the session at 183,133 points, with a decline of 0.84%. The indicator reached 186 thousand points in the morning, but followed the American stock markets in the afternoon and closed lower.
Even with the publication of important indicators in Brazil, such as meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) and the drop in job creation in 2025negotiations were dominated by the international market.
Around the world, investors reacted to the sharp fall in American stock markets at the beginning of trading. Throughout the day, instability decreased in indices linked to industry and the 500 largest companies in the United States, but the Nasdaq index, of technology companies, fell almost 1% this Thursday.
