Tudares González family is prohibited from speaking about the case after his release

Tudares was sentenced to 30 years in prison accused of crimes of conspiracy and terrorism, something that several NGOs and opponents rejected by stating that it was an arrest for political reasons because he is González Urrutia’s son-in-law.


Mariana González, daughter of Edmundo González, said that this Wednesday, January 28, through count in X that the court prohibited her husband, Rafael Tudares, from leaving the country and declaring to the media in “faithful compliance with the substitute precautionary measure” that he received after being released from prison.

He specified that Tudares was left with a periodic reporting regime and “prohibition from giving statements to the media, as well as making any type of public communication in the press, radio, television and any other electronic media.”

Mariana González thanked “for the respect, understanding and empathy” for the information shared and stated that they are complying with the judicial measures imposed on Rafael Tudares.

Rafael Tudares was imprisoned on January 7, 2025, three days before the swearing-in of Nicolás Maduro as president, amid complaints by the opposition that Edmundo González was the winner of the commissions on July 28, 2024.

In December of last year, Tudares was sentenced to 30 years in prison accused of conspiracy and terrorism crimes, something that several NGOs and opponents rejected, stating that it was an arrest for political reasons because he is González Urrutia’s son-in-law.

On January 22 of this year, after an announcement of numerous releases by the authorities, Rafael Tudares was released after 380 days of detention, during which he was only able to see his wife once.

Mariana González hoped that all families who still have a family member imprisoned for political reasons can “live the same joy and relief.”
