Truckers reject subsidy and authorities seek agreement

The Minister of the Interior, Federico González, the president of Petropar, Denis Lichi, and the Deputy Minister of Taxation, Óscar Orué, participated in the meeting convened this morning at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior, to put an end to the road blockades.

Ángel Zaracho, from the Truck Drivers Association of Paraguay, said in an interview with Universo 970 AM – Nación Media radio, that his union is against a new indebtedness, therefore, a short-term solution is not in sight.

Zaracho’s proposal is that Petropar re-regulate the market, that the Selective Consumption Tax be eliminated and that the fuel quotas for the 80 deputies be suspended.

This morning the Senate studies the project that creates the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund, which authorizes a loan of 100 million dollars to subsidize diesel and gasoline.

In addition, as another measure, Petropar reduced the price of fuel by 500 guaraníes and announced that if the proposal is approved, another decrease is expected.
