Members and representatives of the Dominican Medical College (CMD) they protested this Wednesday at Dr. Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital in rejection of the detention of the pediatrician Cristian Diazwhich occurred last Monday in the emergency of the aforementioned health center.
As reported by the CMDhe incident originated after the disagreement of the mother of a patient with the diagnosis offered to her baby, who subsequently presented a complaint alleging alleged physical assault.
According to a press release sent by the entity that brings together the union doctorthe security cameras of the hospital showed that the complainant entered and left the consultation area freely, while the doctor He continued to provide care to other patients.
After the complaint of the mother, according to the union, members of the National Police They abruptly burst into the Robert Reid emergency room, without a court order or coordination with the hospital authorities, proceeding to handcuff and transfer Dr. Díaz to Pilot Plan detachment.
Reactions and demands from the union
The president of CMD, Luis Pena Nunezdeplored the act and denounced multiple violations, including the violation of institutionality, the arbitrary detention of the doctor and the forced abandonment of the service, which left the pediatric emergency momentarily unattended, putting the health of other children at risk.
“This procedure constitutes a serious violation to the human dignity and professional, as well as an unacceptable attack against a doctor who has dedicated years of service to the country, attending with vocation and commitment thousands of Dominican children and many of them in highly vulnerable conditions,” declared Peña Núñez.
“As soon as we became aware of the incident, we acted immediately by alerting the competent authorities and demanding explanations about this unacceptable excess power“he added.
Peña Núñez, on behalf of the National Board of Directors of the CMDdescribed the event as a “serious violation to the human dignity and professional” and warned that he will not allow doctors to be criminalized while they fulfill their care work.
Among its demands, the union demanded a exhaustive investigation on the actions of the agents involved, as well as exemplary sanctions and the implementation of clear protocols of protection to prevent similar events from being repeated in health centers.

The CMD made a direct call to the Minister of the Interior and Police, Faride Raful, and the director general of the National Police, Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, to act responsibly and guarantee respect for due process.
