From November 7 to 9, 2023, the World Robotics Olympics will be held in Panama with the participation of 100,000 students from official schools in the country and 1,500 teachers who will be trained in programming.
In addition, the Olympics are expected to bring to the country some 5,000 visitors from 90 countries around the world, which is expected to generate an economic benefit of more than $12.2 million.
This was reported by the first lady of the Republic, Yazmín Colón de Cortizo, and the president of FundaSteam, Marvin Castillo, during the presentation of the event to the Cabinet Council, so that the development of the Olympics is coordinated between all levels of the State.
“Following the star of our Government, education, since the beginning of my administration I have developed an agenda for the implementation and adoption of ‘steam’ education in Panama and the region; we have programs for gender equity in science and technologies, as well as early childhood programs for project-based learning,” explained the First Lady.
Steam education is a new educational model that combines science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics, with problem solving and teamwork.
For his part, the president of FundaSteam indicated that it will be an important event in which as a country we will be able to show that not only standardized tests are a way of measuring student learning progress.
Panama was awarded the venue for the next World Robotics Olympics in 2023, which was announced by the World Robot Olympiad Association (WRO), after verifying that Panama registered significant advances in “steam” education.
