Two dead after collapse in caliche mine in Sosúa

Dos fallecidos tras derrumbe en mina de caliche en Sosúa

Sosua.- A collapse in a caliche mine in the María O sector, in the municipality of Sosúa, caused the death of Nicolás Domínguez and his son Yariel Domínguez, according to information provided by the authorities.

The collapse occurred while both were inside the excavation, leaving them trapped after a part of the ground fell away.

Members of the relief agencies and residents of the area participated in the rescue efforts, managing to extract the bodies hours after the event.

The authorities indicated that an investigation was opened to establish the causes of the collapse and verify whether the mine complied with established safety standards.

So far, it has not been reported whether the exploitation had the corresponding permits.

The event has had an impact on the community of María O, where the deceased were known.

Neighbors and relatives expressed regret for the tragedy, while waiting for an official report to clarify what happened.
