Broken promise. Once again the offers of the President of the Republic, José Jeríregarding the implementation of a national security plan fall on deaf ears. 24 days ago, the president referred to the issue and assured that “in the coming days” the document prepared by the so-called Temporary Multisector Working Group for the preparation of the proposal for the National Citizen Security Plan, dependent on the Ministry of the Interior, would be presented.
The truth is that not only has that not happened, but now the Executive has extended, starting last Monday the 26th and for 10 calendar days, the validity of the group.
This is the second extension since it was installed on December 17: Originally its functions should have concluded on January 16. On that date, however, it was granted a first extension of 10 ten calendar days that expired last Monday. Since the work has not been completed, the deadline has been extended for the second time for another ten days.
Weeks ago, José Jerí reported that before the end of this month of January he would announce the new citizen security plan.
“We hope that it will also be used by whoever wins the next elections,” he stated, adding that this is a state matter and not a temporary policy.
Three days ago, in addition, through a post, the Presidency of the Republic reported on the development of the Fifth Meeting of the Citizen Security Plan with the participation of the prime minister and the heads of the Justice, Interior and Foreign Relations sectors. “Our fight against crime does not stop!” he said.
Three and a half months into Jerí’s government, however, we still do not have an instrument that allows us to achieve that objective.
