Minister André Mendonça, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), decided this Tuesday (27) to maintain the arrest of businessman Antonio Carlos Camilo Antunes, known as Careca of the INSS.
Antunes is one of those investigated in Operation Without Discount, by the Federal Police (PF), launched last year to investigate undue discounts on association fees in the benefits of retirees and pensioners from the National Social Security Institute (INSS). He has been in prison since September last year at the Papuda prison, in Brasília.
According to investigations, the businessman operated shell companies to divert monthly payments irregularly received by retiree associations. During the operation, the PF seized luxury cars, such as BMW and Porsche, at addresses linked to Antunes.
Last year, in a statement given to the INSS Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI), the businessman denied participating in the embezzlement of retirees’ monthly payments and said that he will hand over documents to the Federal Police to prove the legality of his activities.
