The national director of the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (Cicpc), Douglas Rico, reported through social networks about the arrest of two members of the criminal gang “Las Mulas de la Extorción” in the state of La Guaira.
“Two dangerous antisocials, identified as Mar Gregori Abel Urbina Coronel (28) and Rimelys Paola González Ortiz (31), members of the criminal gang ‘Las Mulas de la Extorsión’, were arrested in the La Esperanza 1 and Vista Al Mar sectors of Arrecife, in the Catia La Mar parish,” Rico wrote on his Instagram account.
Likewise, he explained that this criminal gang has its radius of action in the states of La Guaira, Capital District, Lara and Bolívar. The modus operandi of antisocials consists of making calls from national and international numbers to their victims to request sums in foreign currency.
«They contact their victims to demand large sums in American currency under intimidation. They use previously obtained personal and family data, persuading them by making them believe that they had been hired to murder them, thus forcing them to pay the money demanded,” the publication indicates.
The highest authority of the Cicpc detailed that the criminals offered money to their victims to use their bank accounts, in order to mobilize the money resulting from extortion and thus evade the corresponding criminal responsibilities. However, they were brought to justice.
«During the capture, mobile equipment used for extortion communications was collected. The case was brought to the attention of the 163rd Prosecutor’s Office of the Public Ministry of the Metropolitan Area of Caracas, with jurisdiction over money laundering, financial and economic crimes, kidnapping and extortion,” the post concludes.
