The Russian Government confirmed yesterday that it will maintain “firm and active” its ties with Venezuela, and underlined the importance that Moscow attributes to this strategic alliance in the current international scenario.
“We have our own bilateral relations, we have a whole series of projects whose continuation interests us, we have our investments in Venezuela. For Venezuela too, judging by what we are told from Caracas, the continuation of the development of mutually beneficial relations with Russia is one of the priority issues,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said on Monday.
The presidential spokesperson affirmed that Moscow maintains direct and permanent communication channels with the new Venezuelan Executive, headed by acting president Delcy Rodríguez, whom the Kremlin “knows well.”
In May 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, signed the strategic partnership and cooperation treaty between Caracas and Moscow that covers various areas and defines the directions of joint work between the two countries in the long term.
Russia expressed its forceful rejection of the military attack led by the United States Government against the civilian and military population of Venezuela during the early hours of January 3, and pointed out that Venezuela must have the right to decide its destiny without any type of intervention from the outside.
In addition, the Russian authorities insist on the immediate release of Maduro and first lady Cilia Flores, whose detention the Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Ryabkov, described as “piracy.” l
