China reiterates support for Venezuela in defending its sovereignty

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Guo Jiakun, reiterated that Beijing supports Venezuela in the defense of its sovereignty, dignity and legitimate rights, within the framework of the current political situation that the Bolivarian nation is going through.

Jiakun denounced that the US military actions carried out on January 3 against the Venezuelan State – which included the kidnapping of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, and the First Lady Cilia Flores – constitute hegemonic behavior. According to the spokesperson, these acts seriously violate international law and threaten the territorial integrity of the country.

In this sense, he noted that Beijing is willing to work with the international community to firmly defend the United Nations Charter, as well as to adhere to the principles of global ethics in order to safeguard equity and justice.

Support for Cuba

On the other hand, the Asian nation referred to the possible tightening of the US blockade against Cuba. In this regard, he assured that China will continue to provide support to the island “within its capabilities.”

Finally, Beijing rejected the embargo imposed by the White House, accusing Washington of depriving the Cuban people of their “right to survival and development.”
