Russia says Venezuelan officials collaborated with the US to capture Maduro: “We know the names of the traitors”

The Russian ambassador to Venezuela, Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov, stated that the United States managed to capture Nicolás Maduro due to internal failures, negligence and the collaboration of Venezuelan officials with the intelligence services Americans.

Melik said in an interview with the channel Rossiya‑24 that, during the January 3 operation, many members of the Venezuelan security forces “they didn’t do everything they could” to prevent the advance of foreign forces.

He assured that the difficulties were not limited to the time of the incursion, but dated back to a previous period.

Russia knows who the “traitors” are

The Russian diplomat said that, considering what happened long before the operation, it could be described as treason, and stated that Moscow “know the names of the traitors who fled Venezuela and that they systematically worked for US intelligence.”

The capture of Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores was part of the so-called Operation Absolute Resolve, executed by the United States. Both They face drug trafficking charges in New York City.

After the operation, Delcy Rodríguez took over as interim president from Venezuela.

From the Chavista regime No public accusations have been made about the betrayal of Maduroas they would have done in previous years, and they have almost refused to raise the possibility that within their circle there were those who collaborated with the United States.

Nicolás Maduro Guerra, son of the detainee, mentioned on January 4: “History will tell who the traitors were, history will reveal it.”.

The military was not trained

In addition to the accusation of treason, Melik blamed the Venezuelan forces for the lack of an effective response and stated that Russian air defense systems did not work properly during the operation because the military was not trained to use them.

From Moscow, the Russian government has said that the US operation represents a violation of international law, although He has also defended the continuity of projects and investments in Venezuela and its military cooperation, despite the result of the operation and the diplomatic tensions that intensified.
