Henry Constantín, arrested for the third time this year

MIAMI, United States. – State Security agents arrested this Monday in Havana journalist Henry Constantín, director of the independent media Cuba Timeand the collaborator Alejandra García, according to the media itself reported.

The arrest occurred in “a context of systematic harassment” against Constantín, who, so far in 2026, has already been arrested three times. Cuba Time recalled that the journalist He was arrested on January 14 in Havana and that he remained “more than 40 hours in an unknown whereabouts, without a court order or official information to family or colleagues.” He added that, days later, he was intercepted by police forces in Camagüey, in an act of intimidation that he linked “directly to his journalistic work.”

Besides, Cuba Time He maintained that García’s arrest “also confirms the extension of the repression against independent journalists and communicators, in a context of growing criminalization of the exercise of freedom of expression in Cuba.” The media stated that it holds “the Cuban State responsible for the physical and psychological integrity” of Constantín and García, and demanded “immediate information about their whereabouts and their release without charge.”

Henry Constantin, 41, is one of the most recognized independent journalists in the country. Throughout his career he has been the subject of arreststhreats and harassment for their informative work and their defense of press freedom and human rights.
