Penal Forum reports the release of 266 political prisoners since January 8

Penal Forum, which leads the defense of political prisoners in Venezuela, reported this Monday that it has confirmed 266 releases as part of the release process announced by the government in charge of Delcy Rodríguez on January 8.

The figure is updated until 09:00 am, detailed the president of the NGO Alfredo Romero through a publication in X.

“We are verifying others from yesterday,” He added without offering further details.

On Sunday night, Romero reported 104 new releases during that day.

For his part, the vice president of the Penal Forum, Gonzalo Himiob, told EFE that since early Sunday morning there was “a significant number of releases.”

The releases occur in the middle of a process announced on January 8 by the president of Parliament, the Chavista Jorge Rodríguez, who reported on a “significant number” of releases in the country, without specifying identities, quantities or conditions of these measures.

The president in charge stated on Friday that 626 people have been released in the country.

The Democratic Unitary Platform, which brings together the majority opposition, reported in X that has verified 277 releases since last January 8 until this Sunday, while – he added – there remain more than 835 political prisoners imprisoned.
