PeruRail SA reported that this Monday, January 26, from 5:00 p.m., railway operations resumed on the Machupicchu-Hydroelectric route, interrupted days ago by a landslide.
After receiving communication from Ferrocarril Transandino SA about the completion of the work at PK 114,700, where the landslide was recorded, the measure was adopted to restore the service.
The PeruRail company expressed its gratitude to passengers, travel agencies and tour operators for their wait during the temporary interruption of service.

Total closure of Amazon access to Machu Picchu due to huaico
On the morning of this Sunday, a huaico was recorded in the Mandor sector, at kilometer 115 of the Ollantaytambo – Machu Picchu – Hydroelectric railway, causing the total closure of the so-called Amazonian access to the Peruvian world wonder.
After the emergency and after coordination work between Sernanp and the Decentralized Directorate of Culture Cusco and the District Municipality of Machupicchu, the closure in both directions was ordered in the Hydroelectric section (Km 122) – Machu Picchu Pueblo (Km 110), since the event has caused damage to the railway, bridges and the interruption of pedestrian traffic, representing a risk to the integrity of users.
“The measure is adopted exclusively for security reasons, until the rehabilitation of the affected area and confirmation of traffic safety”they quoted from Sernanp.
TRAIN SUSPENSION
On the other hand, PeruRail SA, a railway operator on the south-eastern route of the country, informed its passengers, travel agencies, tourism operators and the community in general that it is suspending its railway operations on the Machu Picchu – Hydroelectric route until further notice.
“We adopted this measure in compliance with the notification from the concessionaire Ferrocarril Transandino SA due to a disaster that affected the railway. We regret the inconvenience that this measure may cause; therefore, we will inform you of any modification in a timely manner.”said the company through its social networks.
FACT:
- This is not the first emergency of this nature that has been recorded in the area, this type of overflows and landslides always occur during the rainy season, which is why the residents demanded that the law enforcement authorities carry out more prevention work.
