The federal government decided to extend until March 20th the deadline for retirees and pensioners to request reimbursement for amounts unduly deducted from their benefits from the National Social Security Institute (INSS). According to the body, the decision aims to guarantee the broad rights of beneficiaries who, since last Monday (19), have faced instability in Meu INSS.
The original deadline would end on February 14th. In a note, the INSS informed that it maintains daily contact with Dataprev, the state-owned company responsible for Social Security information technology, demanding explanations and measures.
Dataprev informed the INSS that it will carry out maintenance that will make the systems unavailable from this Tuesday (27th) until Sunday, February 1st.
According to the most recent INSS balance, around 4.2 million beneficiaries have already been reimbursed, in amounts totaling R$2.8 billion, out of a total of R$6.2 million in charge disputes. The government estimates, however, that there are still 850,000 retirees and pensioners able to request a refund.
The undue discount scheme was revealed by Operation Without Discount, launched by the Federal Police and the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU), which identified fraud in Technical Cooperation Agreements (ACTs) signed between the INSS and associative entities. The investigations led to the removal of part of the institute’s leadership in April.
The extension seeks to ensure that all those injured by the scheme can recover the amounts in a simplified manner and without the need for legal action.
How to request a return
Beneficiaries can open reimbursement requests through official INSS channels:
- Meu INSS application or website, with login to the Gov.br Portal;
- Telephone 135, with free service from Monday to Saturday, from 7am to 10pm;
- Post offices, which offer free support in more than 5 thousand units.
