Luis Abinader highlights greater security and digitization of the new ID

He President Luis Abinader rated the new ID as an excellent document, with higher levels of securitywhich will allow Dominicans to have an identification safer and digital.

Upon receiving the new ID at the headquarters of the Central Electoral Board (JCE)the president confirmed that it contains all the data of the previous one, including the same number, with the difference that he previously appeared as single and now appears as married, and that in the previous photo he had black hair, while now he looks gray.

The head of state thanked the members of the JCE Plenary Session for their support, headed by its president, Mr. Román Andrés Jáquez Liranzoand the other judges during the day of issuance of the new document.

President Abinader was invited to go to the identification center at 10:25 in the morning and at 10:30 he had already made the change. Upon receiving the document, he looked at it, smiled and then showed it to the media present.

The first lady was then invited to come in, Raquel Arbajewho, after completing the process, thanked the JCE and expressed that the new document strengthens the Dominican democratic system.

While, the president of the JCE, Román Andrés Jáquez Liranzoclarified that the renewal process for the general population will begin from April 12 of this year. To avoid crowds, the renewal will be done according to the birthday month of each citizen, until the 9.5 million people in March of next year.

He indicated that there is a special calendar to carry out the change of ID during the months of February and March in some sectors.

He reported that the process will be carried out, in addition to the Dominican Republic, in 36 countries where the highest concentration of Dominicans resides, according to the records of the General Directorate of Immigration.

Jáquez Liranzo reported that there will be three types of ID: one for teenagers who have not yet reached the age of majority, another for military personnel and one for adults.

He pointed out that the document will contain a large amount of information and that, even if the passport is lost, people could leave the country with the ID.

Duration

He explained that to the people of 18 to 25 years They will be issued an ID valid for 12 years; to those who have between 36 and 60 yearsby 16 years; and those older than 60 yearsby 20 yearswith the aim of avoiding the accumulation of people renewing the document at the same time.

In addition, the new card will include the national symbols: the flag, the shield and the next palm tree.
