The Public Ministry (MP) charged six citizens for their alleged responsibility in the crimes of aggravated smuggling, simple smuggling, gathering and improper handling of dangerous substances or materials, in the state of Amazonas.
The arrest was made when members of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB), while patrolling the Atabapo River, sighted a bongo-type boat. After calling a halt for a routine inspection, officials inspected the cargo.
According to the report presented by prosecutors, the occupants transported a considerable amount of merchandise without legal documentation to justify its transfer; among which stand out:
- 40 units of benefited chicken.
- 16 packages of pasta and various boxes of mayonnaise, butter, deviled ham and cheese.
- 370 boxes of beverages (soft drinks, malts and beers).
- 200 liters of gasoline.
Detainees and measures
Those arrested were identified as Tony José Pitres Herrera (37), William Junior García Arana (34), Roxana Andreina Blanco Sanabria (35), Mairelys Niurka García Arana (32), Greicy Karely Rengifo Montilla (32) and Mircaly Janetsy Brito Rossillo (30).
After the presentation of the evidence by the Public Ministry, the 1st Court of Control of Amazonas issued precautionary measures for the six involved, who must appear before the court every eight days and are prohibited from leaving the entity without judicial authorization.
The charges are based on the Law on the Crime of Smuggling and the Environmental Criminal Law.
