José Jerí: they officially present a motion for presidential vacancy due to meetings with a Chinese businessman

The Congress of the Republic officially presented the vacancy motion against President José Jerí. The reason is due to his unrecorded meetings with Chinese businessman Zhihua Yang, as well as the alleged attempt to privatize PetroPerú. The request promoted by parliamentarian Segundo Montalvo (Perú Libre) has the support of 27 legislators from the various left-wing parties.

According to the official letter presented this Monday, January 26, before the Documentary Processing Area of the institution, the Government of Jerí issued Emergency Decree 010-2025, which establishes economic and financial measures in favor of the company PetroPerú for S/240 million. This would have been done with the purpose of, according to the document, privatizing the state company.

Along the same lines, the signatory legislators affirmed that PetroPerú is not in a situation of insolvency and that it has assets of approximately S/2,200 million.

Furthermore, they considered that the company’s problem is that it has severe liquidity stress “originated by poor management decisions, excessive debt and deficiencies in control mechanisms.”
