The secretary of the PSUV for Social Movements, Popular Power and Great Patriotic Pole, Héctor Rodríguez, yesterday asked Venezuelans to act with “a lot of intelligence” and “from calm”, to achieve the rescue of President Nicolás Maduro and the first lady, Cilia Flores.
During an assembly with social movements in the La Soublette sector, in the state of La Guaira, the national leader said that having the presidential couple under kidnapping forces them to negotiate with the kidnapper.
“I know that right now we are going through a lot of anger, a lot of annoyance, but when you have a family member kidnapped you are obliged to calm down quickly, put down your weapon and start a negotiation process,” he argued.
Rodríguez, also Minister of Education, defended the reestablishment of diplomatic relations with the United States because, among other reasons, consular representation is required to be able to visit President Maduro and Representative Flores and “be able to defend him.”
During the day, the president in charge toured the Las Casitas sector, located in the Catia La Mar parish of La Guaira state, affected by the attacks on January 3, from where he assured that the national government has been working together with the governor of the entity for two weeks to recover the homes.
The acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, called for national unity to guarantee peace and especially urged all political sectors to put aside differences to preserve the peace and sovereignty of the country, proposing an institutionalized dialogue through the National Council of Sovereignty and Peace as a way to reach agreements and guarantee the stability of the country.
