The Lima Stock Exchange (BVL) is a private company that facilitates the trading of stocks, bonds and other financing instruments.
These securities are issued by companies that participate in this market to raise resources and finance their projects, which is why they are called issuing companies.
On the other hand, people or organizations participate that seek to make profitable their surpluses or the funds they manage; An example is the AFPs, which invest members’ money. Thus, the BVL operates as a marketplace that, unlike others, is duly regulated by the Superintendency of the Securities Market (SMV).
To invest, we cannot directly buy the value of a company. The regulation establishes that it must be done through a Stock Broker Company (SAB), a company regulated by the SMV that guarantees that the process is safe.
Requirements to invest
1. Choose a SAB: The first thing is to select the agent with whom we will make the investment. The SMV has a directory of stockbrokers available online.
2. Open a “Value Account”: It is a special account where the titles (stocks or bonds) will be registered. The SAB is in charge of connecting us with Cavali, the institution that maintains the electronic record of ownership of securities in Peru.
3. Sign the Securities Intermediation Agreement: Legal document that governs the relationship with the SAB. It details the transaction commissions, rights and duties of the client, and the authorization to execute buy or sell orders.
4. RUT Code (Unique Owner Registry): It is our “digital footprint” in the stock market. This unique code is assigned by Cavali and the SAB requests its creation automatically when processing the contract.
5. Funds and bank account: Necessary to transfer money to the SAB for purchase operations.
6. Finally, consider that for each operation remuneration commissions must be paid to the BVL, Cavali, the SMV and the SAB, in addition to the corresponding VAT.
Please note
Although there is no minimum amount to invest, it is advisable to start with the necessary sum that allows us not only to buy the shares or securities we are looking for, but also to pay the respective commissions.
