A tragic traffic accident occurred in the province of Yauyos, Lima region, after a car fell into a river in the sector. Huarmaininowithin the Huantan community. Tragedy claimed the lives of a married couple when they returned from a family trip.
The victims were identified as Elizabeth Caro Blas and Jorge Cabezas Balvin. According to preliminary information, the accident occurred on Wednesday January 21around 11:00 in the morningwhen the spouses traveled along the route Huancayo–Huantan. For reasons that are still a matter of investigation, the vehicle lost its way and ended up overturned in the riverbed.
Local media broadcast images showing the tracks left by the tires on the road before the mistake, as well as the unit completely overturned in the middle of the water. Rescue teams managed to recover the body of Elizabeth Caro, while Jorge Cabezas remains missingwhich has motivated intense search efforts in the area.
The authorities have not ruled out the possible participation of another vehicle in the accident and continue to gather information to clarify the causes of the accident. Meanwhile, relatives and residents of Huantan have requested the support of the provincial authorities of Yauyos to reinforce the tracing work and allow the family to bury the missing person.
According to local reports, the couple had been designated as butlers of the Huantan carnivals 2026a festival scheduled for the days February 11, 12 and 13which has increased the commotion among the residents of the community, who are currently in mourning.
On social networks, dozens of messages of condolence have been directed to the victims’ families, remembering the appreciation and affection that the population had for the couple. The tragedy has generated deep consternation in Yauyos, while search efforts and investigations into the case continue.
