The mayor of KyivVitali Klichkó, once again asked the inhabitants of the Ukrainian capital to temporarily move to another place if possible, due to probable energy deterioration due to continued attacks by Russia.
The request was made this Friday, as negotiating teams from Ukraine, Russia and the US have begun their work in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi.
Klichkó’s message
“I address the residents and speak clearly to them: the situation is extremely difficult and we may not yet be in the most difficult moment,” Klichkó said on his social networks, according to a report from EFE.
“For residents who decide to remain in the city, he encouraged them to stock up on basic products such as water and medicine, in case there are also problems with the supply of goods.”
Klichkó already made a similar call on January 9 to leave the city to provisionally settle in other places where the energy supply was guaranteed, when Russia launched the first of the massive bombings it has launched this year against Ukraine.
Upsurge, winter and the Russian offensive
Russia began this new series of attacks coinciding with the coldest winter period in the last two decades in Ukraine; For this reason, agencies such as the Spanish one recall, millions of people in kyiv and other cities have been left for days without electricity and heating.
Temperatures in the capital have approached twenty degrees below zero in recent days and today reach -9. According to the mayor, some 600,000 people have left kyiv since January 9.
Parallel negotiations
Meanwhile, Russia demanded, before the start of dialogue with Ukraine and the United States in Abu Dhabi, that the Ukrainian Army leave Donbas, since this is a “very important” condition to reach an agreement and settle the conflict.
“The Ukrainian Armed Forces must leave the territory of Donbas, they must be withdrawn from there. This is a very important condition” for the end of the conflict, said the spokesman for the Russian Presidency, Dmitri Peskov, during his daily telephone press conference.
The negotiating teams have begun their first trilateral meeting to seek a negotiated solution to the conflict since the start of the war, according to a source reported to the Ukrainian news portal Interfax-Ukraine.
Trump and Zelensky will discuss new peace plan for Ukraine, Russia hits kyiv with new attacks
The meeting, which is expected to last until Saturday, comes after the two American mediators, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, were received in Moscow on Thursday by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Witkoff and Kushner have traveled to the United Arab Emirates directly from the Russian capital, where they had flown from Switzerland.
In the Alpine country, both met, within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos, with emissaries of the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin, respectively. For his part, also in Davos, Zelensky met with US President Donald Trump.
