The National Electoral Institute (INE) warned organizations that intend to create a new political party that any failure in the registration and participation of their delegates in the constitutive assembly, to be held in February, will be grounds for invalidating it.
The General Council ratified in an extraordinary session the requirements for this final phase, prior to its verdict.
He stressed that if the minutes drawn up by the person sent by the institute “prove that it did not have the formalities described, such as the accredited delegates or substitutes; quorum required and approval of basic documents (…) the invalidity of the same could be configured,” is indicated in the agreement approved yesterday at the highest decision-making level of the institute.
At the moment, only three groups – out of 89 that expressed their intention – have any chance of success.
According to the latest cut – from January 20, 2026 –, with preliminary figures subject to review by the Directorate of Prerogatives and Political Parties of the INE, Building Peace Societies (CSP), linked to other parties and supported by members of evangelical churches, is close to reaching the minimum of 256,030 members; In recent days it already had 257 thousand, the institute’s review took it to 253 thousand 444, although there are still a few weeks of opportunity to meet requirements.
People Sumando, in which former INE officials who seek to obtain registration for the eventual party Somos México (SMX) participate, has 181,123 members.
At this point, only the Mexico has Life group, also related to evangelical Christian religious associations, especially in Nuevo León, has accredited militancy. It already has 280 thousand affiliations, subject to review.
Regarding the district assemblies, CSP and SMX have already met the requirement, and México has Vida reports 141 valid ones.
The previous point is important, since the three leading organizations mentioned have called for a greater number of assemblies, but many have not been endorsed due to lack of quorum minimum necessary.
