The BHD projects US$2,970 million in investments after Fitur 2026

During the presentation, held at an event organized by the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republicthe executive vice president of Corporate and Business Banking of the BHD, Guillermo Mendezhighlighted that the presence of the financial entity at the fair has the objective of strengthening the position of the Dominican Republic as destination.

He indicated that these investment expectations identified in Fitur 2026 will materialize in a period of three to four yearsbecause they cover large scale projectshigh diversification and alignment with the main tourist centers.

“Our country is reliable, competitive and attractive for investment. The BHD is present at Fitur as a strategic partner of the tourism sector to actively accompany the growth of Dominican tourism,” said Méndez.

Hotels concentrate these investments

The executive reported that hospitality and mixed hotel-residential projects represent more than 2.32 billion dollars in investment, confirming the trend towards integrated developments; residential investments around 550 million dollars, mainly in Punta Cana, Puerto Plata and Sosúa; and health projects and related services, with approximately 102 million dollars, strengthening the infrastructure to support tourism and local communities.

“This set of initiatives reaffirms that the ecosystem approach is a profitable and sustainable model for tourism investment,” highlighted Méndez.

BHD Forum Tourism and Investment

As part of its activities at the fair, the BHD celebrated the third edition of the BHD Forum of Tourism and Investment.

On this occasion, the topic “Trends in tourism in the Caribbean; beyond coastal tourism” was addressed, an event in which the Madrid Declaration of the BHD Forum of Tourism and Investment, a document that collects the conclusions of the presentations of each day.

Another relevant announcement from the financial entity was the signing of an agreement between the BHD Bank and the Dominican Sports Tourism Association, aimed at promoting the development of this tourism modality in the country.

The agreement includes the creation of financial products for organizers, tour operators, athletes and participants; training programs for microenterprises and SMEs linked to sports tourismand support for the association’s events agenda.

The agreement also includes carrying out a study on the economic impact of the sports tourism in the Dominican Republic.

“Our support to tourism sector It goes beyond coastal tourism. Our commitment is integral to the entire ecosystem. We are convinced that the well planned tourismwell-funded and well-integrated is a powerful lever for the sustainable development of our Dominican Republic“, Méndez concluded.

The results of Fitur 2026 made known by the BHD They are part of the performance of the Bank’s Tourism and Related Services unit, which closed 2025 with a portfolio growth of 23%.

Currently, one in every five dollars lent to the tourism sector Dominican comes from BHD Bank.
