The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) determined that batch CC28525493 of Laka White Chocolate should be recalled due to the wrong packaging. The Laka Oreo product was packaged with the Laka White Chocolate label.
Anvisa’s determination occurred after the product manufacturer, Mondelez Brasil Ltda, communicated the voluntary recall of the batch and the withdrawal of the product from the market after discovering the error in the packaging.
According to Anvisa, for people with specific health conditions, such as celiacs and those allergic to gluten, the lack of this information poses health risks.
“This technical failure means that the ingredients described on the label do not correspond to the product. The change of packaging also resulted in the lack of mandatory declaration of the presence of gluten in the product, which is mandatory by law”, said the agency, in a note.
Anvisa also ordered the recall of Glitter and Holographic Glitter from the Flex Fest brand. The products, which are from the company AP Viola Artes e Festas Ltda (Flex Fest), had their marketing, distribution, manufacturing, dissemination and use suspended. “The reason for the suspension is because the items contain plastic materials, which makes them unsuitable for consumption in food,” explained Anvisa.
THE Brazil Agency contacted Mondelez Brasil and is awaiting a position on Anvisa’s decision.
