The designated special representative of the Gang Suppression Force for Haiti (GSF), Jack Christofidesreported that the first contingents of this mission International will begin to arrive in the Caribbean country in the month of April, as part of the efforts aimed at supporting the stabilization and restoration of security in Haiti.
Christofides offered these statements during a meeting held this Thursday afternoon with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Roberto Alvarezin which he also pointed out that for the month of October the deployment integral part of the Force, details a statement from the Mirex.
Likewise, he confirmed that the financing of the mission has been approved for a period of one year.
During the meetingboth parties exchanged opinions on the structure of the GSF and the preparations necessary for its deployment.
In that context, Christofides thanked the willingness to cooperate expressed by the Dominican Republic and announced its intention to carry out a official visit to Santo Domingo once he formally assumes his duties in Haitiwith the purpose of meeting with the Dominican authorities.
Within the framework of the meetinghe chancellor Roberto Alvarez reiterated the importance of the Gang Suppression Force to restore security in Haiti and expressed his expectation that the deployment be carried out as soon as possible.

meeting with BINUH
As part of his agenda, the Minister Alvarez also held a exchange with Carlos Ruiz Massieuspecial representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and head of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH).
Álvarez discussed with the official the continued cooperation with the Dominican Republic and the importance of the renewal of the mandate of the BINUHwhich ends on January 31, as well as key aspects to respond more effectively to the situation in Haiti.
He chancellor reaffirmed to both officials the commitment of the country to continue collaborating with the medical evacuations of GSF personnel and with other logistical support from Dominican territory.
