In the context of the discussion about President Claudia Sheinbaum’s electoral reform initiative, Morena and her allies highlighted the importance of maintaining the unity of the coalition towards the next electoral processes, while the opponents called on PT and Verde to “act with dignity and not allow themselves to be pressured” by the cherry on top.

Yesterday, in a session of the Permanent Commission in San Lázaro, the coordinator of the Morena parliamentary group in San Lázaro, Ricardo Monreal, said he was confident that the dialogue currently being held by the national leadership of PT and PVEM with the Secretary of the Interior (SG) will be fruitful, and he stressed the need not to divide.

“We cannot put our coalition at risk. Morena, PT and Verde must walk together to go to the 2027 and 2030 elections. The agreements reached in the SG and in the Presidential Commission for Electoral Reform between the three parties, here (in San Lázaro) we are going to respect them,” he asserted.

Likewise, he reiterated that there is still no finished amendment proposal and various scenarios are being analyzed on issues such as multi-member legislators and party financing.

Separately, the coordinator of the PT deputies, Reginaldo Sandoval, agreed that the three parties of the majority alliance “we are only half building the method” of dialogue on the content of the reform, and that the priority is not to fall into divisions.

“We are in the logic that we walk in the depth of the unity of the coalition and of Mexico. We must dialogue with everyone so that unity is generated, although of course not with those who are going abroad to ask that Mexico be invaded,” he noted.

Meanwhile, deputy Raúl Bolaños (PVEM) endorsed the “legislative alliance with President Sheinbaum without any hesitation,” and refused to join a “public debate based on transcended facts.”

In that tone, he pointed out that among the “points of interest” of the Green, in the face of the reform, are the defense of the “plural” representation of the country in Congress and the autonomy of electoral bodies, making campaigns less onerous and promoting participatory democracy.

For his part, the MC coordinator in the Senate, Clemente Castañeda, urged PT and PVEM to “act with dignity, defend democratic principles and not allow themselves to be pressured by the authoritarian regime. I invite them to resist the attacks of power. We are ready for it.”
