The US appoints Laura Dogu as the new head of diplomatic mission for Venezuela

On January 9, United States diplomatic and security personnel from the Venezuela Affairs Unit (VAU) arrived in the country to carry out an initial evaluation for a possible gradual resumption of its embassy operations.


The United States appointed Laura Dogu as the new head of the diplomatic mission in Venezuela. This is confirmed by the information published on the website of the North American embassy this Thursday, January 22.

After the capture and extraction of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, “a new political moment” began, according to Delcy Rodríguez, head of the national Executive, where there is a rapprochement between Venezuela and the United States.

Diplomatic relations between the United States had been broken since 2019.

On January 9, United States diplomatic and security personnel from the Venezuela Affairs Unit (VAU) arrived in the country to carry out an initial evaluation for a possible gradual resumption of its embassy operations.

Dogu was United States ambassador to the Republic of Honduras (2022 to 2025) and ambassador to Nicaragua (2015 to 2018).

Other overseas assignments include the United States Consulate General in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and embassies in Türkiye, Egypt, and El Salvador.
