The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office against Organized Crime of La Libertad formalized the preparatory investigation into the massacre of 13 workers that occurred in April 2025 in Pataz, La Libertad, amid disputes over the control of illegal mining.
The process focuses on Miguel Antonio Rodríguez Díaz, alias “Cuchillo”, captured in Colombia and accused of being the alleged mastermind of the homicides, criminal organization, aggravated hitman and money laundering.
The Peruvian authorities have requested his active extradition from Medellín, after the Executive approved the extension of the formal request, a key step to bring the main investigator to justice.
It should be remembered that in May 2025, “Cuchillo” was sentenced to 36 months of preventive detention.
