AND
build an empire That it last a thousand years has been the ambition of tragic adventurers. Controversial characters and obedient people formed his chorus. Few have achieved it. Others, although they have come close, are not recognized: the Venetians, in addition to the Egyptians, were, perhaps, those who achieved it halfway. And this without having conquered the then “known” world with their weapons. They used other means, also effective, to impose themselves: their ships for crusades, diplomacy and trade. Until Napoleon arrived and took away their continuity, in 1809. Its importance began after having survived several centuries, following the destruction of the Western Roman Empire: year 450 AD.
Hitler and his henchmen, much later, presented it as longing. Tragic illusion of Reich German that caused devastation and death. In these confusing days, part of the American elite dreams of prolonging its faltering hegemony at any cost. They have led the current global sphere of power well into the second century. Although, according to signs and analysts, everything points towards a gradual, but certain, decline of its preponderant position. Indications abound that point to the inability and decline of their real possibilities to reach even half of this millennium in such a position. The increasingly recognized emergence of other powers forces them to give up part of their spheres of influence and dominance.
They have not renounced, however, their capabilities and benefits as a dominant world power. Rather, they have jealously, sometimes secretly, reaffirmed them. They increasingly rely on their financial, market, technological, intelligence and, above all, military muscles.
The purpose is to prolong their vast privileges as an empire that they have been and wish to continue being. On the path to achieving such an ambitious task, they have redoubled their mandates and rudeness. Although, now, faced with the inability to simply impose themselves with a certain naturalness and different means, they increasingly relapse into attitudes and practices of punishment, blackmail and daily threats. Now, the important thing seems to be, finally, to dominate, to subjugate, at whatever cost is necessary, to impose conditions and obtain concrete benefits. Countries peripheral to their vital environment have no choice but to obey, subordinately, what they consider to be unappealable command. Or, as sometimes happens, accepting, subordinately, their instructions. Such attitude and purpose is revealed, inescapable, in its various excesses. They don’t stop lying to run over a country. They did it in Iraq, Vietnam, Libya or Mexico. And they also do it in Venezuela for resisting following their guidelines. Maduro and his government intended to negotiate their abundant oil in currencies led by the Chinese currency. An attempt far outside its real possibilities. Like several of those named above, the attempt cost Maduro the invasion, extraction and imprisonment.
The present points towards a balance between the United States and a growing coalition, made up of several countries, (BRICS). Exchanges of force and firm positions have already been introduced – although still incipient – that may even lead to major conflicts. It is an arrangement that much depends on their own leadership and, especially, on the intensity of the ambitions displayed by these elites, especially the gringas. And there lies, precisely, the current danger. In the enthronement of those deluded elites in the game of geopolitical rearrangement. We even have to consider the elites that come from the business environment or those from the public, military and academic spheres. All of them are rebelling as preponderant coalitions in conducting strategies for the continuous rearrangement of large spheres of forces. The terrible contribution made by the current administration of the US president, Donald Trump, makes the general atmosphere, moreover, unstable. Warning about the deep-rooted positions of a right-wing, unenlightened but voracious environment. But the attitudes and evaluations are similar, almost identical. They do not vary insofar as they try to impose unilateral conditions. The dream for centuries is there.
At the bottom of Trump’s demand to take over Greenland lies this unbridled attempt to be remembered for many years. All the hiccups caused by rudeness, abuse, whims or errors in the use of force can be diffused with achievements, adventures, and the loss of valuable possessions. The democratic-elective mechanism, as a hope of internal control, can be used, but it is also changing and manageable. The checkpoints, including the counterweights of force and negotiation that other powerful nations introduce, force us to make decisions about belonging. The measure adopted to qualify any inclination largely depends on the geographical location occupied and the degree of sovereignty.
