The official calendar starts this Wednesday January 21 with the inauguration of the photographic exhibition “The fortress of the forest: the route to Gran Pajatén”which seeks to bring the public closer to the natural and cultural values of the historical-cultural zone No. 1, located in the western sector of the park.
The exhibition presents images of archaeological complexes such as the Great Pajaten and The Pinchudosin addition to recording the human and technical effort required by research work in a geography that is difficult to access.

Archaeological Research Program 2026–2027
The central axis of the annual agenda will be the execution of the Archaeological Research Program (PRIA) 2026–2027for conservation purposes, which will be developed in the Alto Montecristo valley, within the Abiseo River National Park.
This program aims to expand knowledge about the human groups that inhabited this cultural landscape through identification, registration, delimitation and archaeological excavation work.

Interdisciplinary approach and sustainability
One of the most relevant aspects of PRIA is its interdisciplinary approach, which incorporates a large-scale biological component. This will allow for the elaboration of flora and fauna inventories, articulating archaeological research with environmental research.
According to the Ministry of Culture, this integration will generate key information to ensure the sustainability of field work and adequate management of the protected natural area.
Publications and content for the public
In the field of dissemination, the DDC San Martín will continue with the audiovisual series “Abiseo in a minute”which in 2025 had a positive reception on social networks. The new information capsules will seek to strengthen the bond of citizens with the history and cultural heritage of the region.
Likewise, the publication of the book is planned “We are that path”which brings together scientific articles by researchers who have carried out studies in the park in recent years, with the aim of consolidating the academic bases for the preservation of its exceptional universal values.
Commitment to Amazonian heritage
With these actions, the Ministry of Culture reaffirms its commitment to the protection and enhancement of the Abiseo River National Park, strengthening both the physical conservation of the site and its cultural dissemination, so that the legacy of Gran Pajatén is understood and valued by all citizens.
