Two tragic road accidents in less than 24 hours left the Ancash region in mourning, leaving three people dead and several injured in the provinces of Pallasca and Pomabamba, areas characterized by winding roads and rugged geography in the heart of the Ancash mountain range.
Local authorities and the National Police began investigations to clarify the causes of both accidents, while reiterating the call to drivers to take extreme precautions due to the difficult road conditions in the area.
Van falls into the river with mining workers
The first mistake occurred on the Adamalca-Conchucos highway, Pallasca province, when a truck transporting artisanal mining workers to the Pampas district lost control and plunged into the Conchucos River near the Peñas Cerradas sector.
The driver of the vehicle identified as Elder Aspur Ochoa He lost his life instantly due to the violent impact against the river bed. The other occupants suffered injuries of varying severity and were evacuated to the Conchucos health center to receive urgent medical attention.
Municipal councilor dies in landslide
Hours later, a second accident was recorded on the Conopa-Pomabamba route, specifically in the Huagancu sector, where a Station Wagon car fell off a slope more than 800 meters deep.
As a result of the fall, the councilor of the Provincial Municipality of Pomabamba, Bacilio Carranza Bermúdezand his companion Francisco Liñán Blaswho were traveling for reasons linked to municipal efforts in the area.
Investigations in progress
The Public Ministry, in coordination with members of the National Police, deployed expert teams to both areas to determine the exact causes of the accidents, evaluating factors such as the mechanical condition of the vehicles, weather conditions and possible human errors.
The regional authorities emphasized the need to reinforce road safety measures on these roads in the Ancash mountains, known for their danger due to sharp curves, lack of adequate signage and cliffs without containment barriers.
