Delia Espinoza is launched as a candidate for the deanship of CAL

Delia Espinoza will run as a candidate for the deanship of the Lima Bar Association (CAL). The elections will take place on February 28, 2026 with the aim of renewing the Governing and Control Bodies of the CAL (Board of Directors, Surveillance Board and delegates to the General Assembly).

Days before, the suspended National Prosecutor had already announced that she was evaluating her application, but that the announcement would be made as of January 19. That’s how it was. During a press conference this Tuesday the 20th at the Charles Chaplin Institute, the lawyer announced her intentions to take the leadership of the CAL.

Humberto Abanto will also apply for CAL

The lawyer Humberto Abanto; who includes among his clients Wilfredo Oscorima, Patricia Chirinos, Vladimir Cerrón, is another of the candidates for the CAL deanship.

He announced his candidacy on January 15 through a video posted on social networks. In his dissertation he dedicated himself to pointing out alleged failures of the institution.

“It began by becoming the legal arm of criminal organizations for the sole reason of practicing defense and the Lima Bar Association said nothing. Then, we saw law offices raided, violating professional secrecy and the CAL did not say anything. Subsequently, we have seen lawyers parade to maximum security prisons, accused of also being members of criminal organizations and the CAL did not say anything. Every day lawyers are mistreated in judicial offices, in tax offices, in police stations and even in administrative offices and the CAL does not say anything,” he indicated.

When asked about Abanto’s nomination, Espinoza indicated that “they are colleagues” and made it clear that she has “no quarrels or hatred with anyone.” “They tell me that I am this, that I am an enemy, that I am a politician, an operator. Gentlemen, I have no enemies in life. […] I esteem them, some are friends, others are not friends, but I have a lot of respect for them. Of course, I am very respectful. I don’t have to have enemies. Look, life is too short to be filled with enemies, really,” he said.
