It's not just football. The 2026 World Cup and the urgency of reactivating investment

From a business perspective, the message has been ambiguous. Mexico continues to be attractive for its domestic market, its geographical location and its talent. However, it also faces mixed signals that force companies to operate cautiously. When investing is perceived as a gamble and not a rational decision, capital becomes conservative. He doesn’t run away, but he doesn’t take risks either.

No, I am not suggesting that we deny the benefits of the World Cup or minimize its impact; I suggest that we understand its true dimension. The tournament can be an accelerator, but not a substitute for economic policy. It can amplify what already exists, but not create what is missing. If the country lets 2026 pass without a solid investment base, the rebound will be brief and the return to reality abrupt.

Let’s make the commitment to take advantage of this moment for something more ambitious than receiving tourists and selling t-shirts. I believe Mexico should use global attention as a platform to send a clear signal to the markets: “you can invest here with stable rules, long-term vision and institutional commitment.” And that signal is not built with speeches, but with consistent decisions.

The problem of investment limbo is not technical; It is emotional and political. It is the feeling that the course can change without warning, that the rules are not always predictable, that the long term constantly competes with the urgency of the short. As long as that perception persists, capital will continue to wait.
