Four dead and around 70 affected is the toll that the rains, floods and landslides have generated in the Junín region; Despite this, many authorities do not seem to care about the situation and decided not to participate—and in some cases not even send representatives—in the installation of the Regional Civil Defense Platform.
RESEARCH
Only 60% of institutions involved in the platform attended; Some municipalities, such as Yauli, did not send any representatives, while the absence of provincial mayors was notable. Only the mayors of Junín and Jauja were present.
Also striking was the absence of the Fire Company, which did not send representatives either. For its part, the Archbishopric of Huancayo—with a significant number of churches and temples in a precarious situation and at risk of collapse—did not participate in the meeting.
Regarding this, the regional governor, Zósimo Cárdenas, reported that the Public Ministry will initiate investigations for alleged omission of functions against the authorities who did not participate, despite the seriousness of the situation.
“They are irresponsible; it seems that they take it lightly, they are not aware of what they have assumed. The Crime Prevention Prosecutor’s Office has already taken notice; this is a law, not a favor”warned the regional authority.
AGREEMENTS
Despite the absence of titular authorities, agreements were made to initiate inspection actions and, more importantly, manage road maintenance.
“We are going to demand from Provías Nacional a greater presence of machinery on the national roads that will be blocked in the month of January, February and March.”announced the deputy manager of Civil Defense, José Vásquez, who concluded by asking the authorities to act with speed, commitment and responsibility in the face of emergencies.
